The mill of Cocussotte dates from the end of XIII ème century. It was in origin a mill with flours then a sawmill at the beginning of XX ème century.
The mill is located on the river " Dropt " which takes its source near Monpazier and throws itself into Garonne between Réole and Langon in Gironde. The history of the mill and that of the navigation of the river are rich in numerous anecdotes and events.
By this garden ont nonexistent done up on an island of the river to serve of case à a hydraulic wheel of more than 5 metres in diameters and weighing 4 tonnes. The wheel, restored, is in perfect state of functioning. The site, inscribed to the associations of the friends of mills, having stuck to the «Gardens of the Lot and Garonne» was kept by DRAC Aquitaine and participated, for the 1st time in 2006, in «Dates in gardens», first weekend of June.
Park and garden are done up on an island of 1 hectare, supervising the mill, its paddle wheel, the dam in stones of size of more than 50 metres in lengths, its waterfall and the plan of water.
A pontoon overhangs the river and is on the route drawn for promenade. Route passing by a stony bridge spanning over the channel of escape of the mill. Throughout this course, we can cross pigeon house, oven with breads, massifs and basins. A footbridge crosses one of them and allows to pick up the image of the wheel in movement. Some poplars, almost hundred-year-old stand in the middle of fruit trees, in fancy bushes and make easier the research of shade which with the noise of water made by this place a place advantageous for imagining and for calmness. Daffodils, tulips, iris, rosebushes, acanthuses, dahlias, verveines, brooms, arums and other flowers out of place liven up this place of different colours every instant of the year. The mill of Cocussotte saw allocated, in 2006, a 1st price, by Council general du Lot and Garonne as part of operation "Fleurir la France"
