| In the very heart of the small valley of Escornebeuf and Pays de Serres, the village of Saint Maurin, classified as "Typical Village", very preserved, kept intact all the charm of the life of formerly. The imposing ruins of its clunisian abbey are drawn up in the center of the borough. It was built on the tomb of the Maurin martyr and was devoted into 1097 (dedication engraved on the wall of the southern transept). Of this very vast field remains today a still majestic part of the chorus (XIIth century) where one can see two very beautiful capitals reporting the martyr of Saint Maurin, the southern transept (XIth century), the abbey castle (XVIth century) and its park, and in the deprived field nonopen to the visit, two spans of the cloister (XIIIth and XVIth century), the chapter house (XVIth century) and the garden of the monks. The ethnographic museum, installed in the cellars of the abbey castle and a part of the keep, accomodates a great number of objects agreeably displayed. They recall the life of the village at the prosperous time of the beginning XXth century; artisanal, agricultural and family life. Church of Saint Martin d'Anglars, another interesting listed monument. |
